LEAVENWORTH, Indiana, November 15th, 2016 --The Leavenworth Police Department has been awarded a grant from the Crawford County Substance Abuse Council - Drug Free Crawford. The grant award of $1990.52 was designated for drug and alcohol interdiction efforts by law enforcement agencies. Leavenworth Police Department plans to purchase a vehicle RADAR system as well as three Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) kits and a supply of disposable test tubes for the PBT kits to assist with DUI enforcement activities. The department will also purchase a variety of evidence bags and evidence tape with these grant funds.
Drug Free Crawford is a community-based organization focused on education, treatment, prevention, and enforcement efforts around drug and alcohol abuse. The organization is funded by fees collected by the Crawford County Prosecutor's office from convicted drug and alcohol offenders. A local Substance Abuse Council is chartered in every county in Indiana by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI). Grant applications are submitted to the council annually and reviewed and awarded by the council's grant review committee and by ICJI.
